Ketamine-Assisted
Psychotherapy
A different kind of treatment window for depression, anxiety, and trauma that conventional medications haven't moved.
What KAP is
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) uses carefully-dosed ketamine to create a temporary shift in brain state, often described as a kind of psychological flexibility, paired with structured psychotherapy in the days and weeks around each dosing experience. The point isn't the ketamine. The point is the therapeutic work that ketamine makes more accessible: a chance to meet difficult material with less of the rigid, looping resistance that the depressed or anxious brain usually puts up.
KAP isn't a cure, and it isn't right for everyone. For the patients it does fit, the published clinical literature shows meaningful response, including for treatment-resistant depression, where conventional antidepressants alone have failed.
Who KAP is for
KAP may be a fit if:
You've tried multiple antidepressants without sufficient response.
Your depression, anxiety, or trauma symptoms feel "stuck" — you know what's wrong and you can't get traction on it.
You're medically appropriate (no uncontrolled hypertension, relevant cardiac issues, active psychotic disorders, or pregnancy).
You're prepared to engage in psychotherapy alongside the dosing, KAP without integration is just dosing.
Candidacy is determined in your initial 60-minute consultation. If I don't think KAP is the right tool for what you're navigating, I'll say so directly, and we'll talk through what might fit better.
How I deliver KAP
KAP at Blue Jay Psychiatry is collaborative. There are two paths into it:
Path 1 — You already have a therapist you trust. I handle the medical side end-to-end: candidacy assessment, prescribing, and ongoing medication-management visits with you across the KAP arc to monitor for contraindications, side effects, and whether ketamine continues to be the right call as treatment progresses. Your therapist runs the psychotherapy: preparation, dosing-day support, and integration. Your therapist and I communicate directly on shared clinical calls so the medical and therapeutic sides of your care stay in step.
Path 2 — You'd prefer one provider for the whole arc. I handle both sides end-to-end. The medical work: prescribing and ongoing medication management across the KAP arc. And the psychotherapy that surrounds the dosing: preparation sessions, integration sessions, and the through-line of the treatment relationship.
Both paths are real options here. The right one depends on the care relationships you already have and what you want from the work.
What to expect
Free 20-minute chemistry check. A short conversation about
what you're navigating and whether Blue Jay Psychiatry is the right place for it. No medical advice, no commitment.
Initial consultation (60 min). Full history, current
medications, candidacy review. If KAP is a fit, we'll talk through the protocol, sequencing, and which path above makes sense for you.
Preparation. Before any dosing, you'll have preparation
sessions to set intention, review the experience, and surface concerns. Conducted by your therapist or by me, depending on path.
Dosing sessions. Sublingual ketamine, supported by your
therapist or by me depending on path. Most cycles include 3–6 dosing sessions.
Integration. Therapy work in the days following each dose to
metabolize the experience and translate it into behavioral and psychological change.
Ongoing medical oversight. Across the cycle I keep watch on
your medication picture — contraindications, side effects, sleep, mood, and decision points about whether to continue, adjust, or stop.
KAP cycles are quoted based on the specific protocol your case calls for — the number of preparation, dosing, and integration sessions varies. I walk through the full cost transparently in your initial consultation, before any commitment. The general fee schedule (initial consult, medication management, combined visits) is on the Services page. Blue Jay Psychiatry is cash-pay; I provide a Superbill upon request so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.
